The Big Reveal

Welcome to the Big Reveal

I enjoy reading author interviews, but often times they don’t ask the kinds
of questions I wonder about. So I’ve assembled a group of writers at
all levels, from un-agented to published, and every week I will
have a new question for them.

Do you have many stories ideas written in notebooks or in your head that are waiting to be written? Or are you more a one idea at a time writer?

Mark Koopmans, Un-agented Author
WIP#2 is a collaboration of many ideas, but I have real, steel office files filled with notebooks and pads, so perhaps WIP#3, 4 etc. will be discovered in there… maybe?

Eileen Cook, Published Author
I am always scribbling down ideas or scraps of ideas. I keep a notebook going at all times. Then when I’m ready to start a new book I look through those to see if there is any inspiration. Many times I can’t remember what it was about that idea that I found so interesting. Other times different ideas will come together to start a brand new idea that is even better than the two alone.

Kelley Lynn, Published Author
I have a lot of ideas. The amount of ideas are lessening because I’m finishing the stories and trying hard not to think about more ideas until I’ve got the rest down. But they always sneak in. I have them mostly in my head but a few I have written as really crappy query letters in a folder on my computer. I’m guessing my ‘idea folder’ in my brain will never be empty…haha

Lara Schiffbauer, Published Author
I have two stories brewing in my mind right now, and then little ideas come to me every so often. I write the ones that really pique my interest down, and then try to forget about them until it’s their turn. I think I’m too linear of a thinker to work on more than one story at a time.

Chloe Banks, Agented Author
I have scraps – first lines, titles, single ideas – floating around all the time, but only one or two ideas that are actually going somewhere. I find idea generation tricky sometimes. I tend to only work on one thing at once – though I can edit older stuff while creating new stuff.

Valerie Cole, Agented Author
I try to focus on one at a time, but I keep a notebook just in case.

Jay Bendt, Un-agented Author
I have way too many stories. Trying to make time for them all and also make art can be difficult, but it’s a balance I am hoping to strike someday.

Do you have lots of ideas for new novels waiting to be written?

  1. I’ve got lots of story ideas I hope to get to one day. I try not to think about them otherwise the characters will start talking and it’ll make me want to start writing. And I have too many other things to finish first.
