Welcome to the Big Reveal
I enjoy reading author interviews, but often times they don’t ask the kinds
of questions I wonder about. So I’ve assembled a group of writers at
all levels, from un-agented to published, and every week I will
have a new question for them.
This is our last question with this set of writers and next there will be some new people. Thank you everyone for participating. It was fun to get to know you all better.
How often do you read?
Kelley Lynn, Published Author
My reading goes in spurts. Usually I get a bunch of stuff read when I’m not currently writing/editing. Last year that meant I didn’t get a lot of reading done, because it felt like I was always writing/editing. This year there have been spans where I didn’t write. I think I’ll get about 50 books read this year. Maybe…haha
Lara Schiffbauer, Published Author
I have to fess up. I don’t get to read much at all. Often it comes down to “Do I read or do I write?” I try to read, but it takes a committed effort to get a book finished before I have to return it to the library. I used to read constantly, and I really miss it. I’ve noticed it’s easier to write when I’m reading, but time is scarce – especially during the school year and I’m back at work.
Chloe Banks, Agented Author
I don’t read as much as a lot of writers, but I do try to read a little each day. I’ve just finished reading the BBC Top 100 books as voted for by the British public in 2003. So it’s wildly out of date, but at least I’ve finished at last! I started a reading journal a year ago, so I can tell you that in the last 12 months I’ve read about 33 books – ranging from Ulysses to short story anthologies.
Valerie Cole, Agented Author
I read about a book a week. I’d kill to read more though…if there were only more hours in the day.
Jay Bendt, Un-agented Author
I can average about 4 books a week if I try really hard. Somedays though I may not do more than 2 a month, if I’m busy… my goal is 50-60 at the end of the year.
Mark Koopmans, Un-agented Author
I always have three books on the go, but probably only read 20 – 25 books a year.
Eileen Cook, Published Author
I read ALL the time. I can’t stand if I don’t have a book on the go. I get nervous if there aren’t stacks of books around the house waiting to be read. I read around 30-40 books a year. I’ve always been lucky because I read pretty quickly.
How many books do you read (a week/month/year)?
