The Big Reveal

Welcome to the Big Reveal

I enjoy reading author interviews, but often times they don’t ask the kinds
of questions I wonder about. So I’ve assembled a group of writers at
all levels, from un-agented to published, and every week I will
have a new question for them.

Are you obsessive about backing up your work?

Julie Sondra Decker
I’m less careful about backups than I should be, but I do save my books one additional place on an external drive so crashes wouldn’t destroy my life. Sometimes if I am doing a substantial edit, I’ll save the old version and keep going with a new file name, but I don’t do it very often.

Kyra Lennon
I wouldn’t say I’m obsessive, but I do try to be careful. Sometimes I use Dropbox, but mostly I just email the files to myself, and when I’m feeling extra careful, I back everything up to an external hard drive.

Medeia Sharif
I back up once a week on a flash drive.

Manda Pepper
I’m not as obsessive as I probably should be. I do keep a secondary flash drive that I backup from time to time, and when I remember to do it, I’ll shelve some pieces in Google Docs.

Rachel Schieffelbein
I’m much better about backing stuff up ever since I lost my MG novel a few years ago! Now I save to a removable disk, and I email my work to myself or someone else so I know I can get it back that way, too.

Ilima Todd
>>>I don’t trust our back-up system and email myself my documents all the time. Like, daily. I’ll even email my husband…just in case. 😉

Janeal Falor
Crazy obsessive. My husband is a computer nerd, so I know if something happened, he’d most likely be able to recover it. But I wouldn’t want the stress or worry of something happening. I usually save copies in multiple places on my hard drive and email it to myself. My husband keeps trying to get me to save it an external hard drive we have as well, but I haven’t yet.
